What is HPAT?
The HPAT (Health Professions Admission Test) is a standardised test used by Irish universities as part of their admissions criteria for undergraduate medicine (Trinity, UCD, Limerick, Cork, RCSI, and Galway).
It’s a 2.5-hour, computer-based exam assessing skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional intelligence and understanding of others, and non-verbal or abstract reasoning. There’s no fixed syllabus and nothing to memorise, success comes down to genuine skill-building through practice, not subject knowledge.
Around 1 in 6 students who sit the HPAT secure a place in medicine, and thorough preparation is essential to scoring highly. The Ace the HPAT course has been built and refined over more than a decade to help students maximise their performance in this challenging exam.

I also found that practicing the questions in groups and listening to how others approached them was hugely beneficial to me. The 2.5 hour classes and practice exams allowed me to familiarise myself with the exam and encouraged me to work at it consistently. I would definitely recommend these grinds to anyone thinking about sitting the exam as it was essential to my HPAT success.
