HPAT - Ireland results will be released to UL applicants and mature test takers in mid to late April. All the other test takers will receive their results in late June 2024. You will be advised via email when results are available to you via your online account. You can access your Statement of Results through your ACER account.
The HPAT used to be held in-person in examination centres around the country. But since 2021, the HPAT exam has been held online via remote proctoring. This means an invigilator observes you through your webcam while you take the exam remotely on a desktop computer or laptop.
If you are applying to medical training in Ireland from secondary school, you will go through the CAO system. Your total score for your application will be a combination of your Leaving Cert and HPAT scores.
Undergraduate medical training in Ireland will be 5-6 years depending on the college you attend, and postgraduate medical training (i.e. having already done another degree) will usually last 4 years.
The mature entry pathway aims to widen access to medicine by allowing people who may not otherwise be eligible for a place to gain access to a medical programme.
